Abraham and Andrew - amazingly alike in lots of ways.

Abraham was our first adoption...24 plus yrs ago. He is blind from birth with a extremely rare condition called Norres disease. He was abused and abandoned at his orphanage in Mexico. He had been beaten and had both legs broken and was in a body cast... He is the sweetest, most gentle man there is with a soft heart for his brother Andrew... actually all of his siblings.

Andrew we just brought home from Bulgaria on Christmas eve.... He too was severely neglected and abused. He is blind from congenitial glaucoma and this too is extremely rare condition... He is turning into a sweet and gentle little guy whom everyone here has a soft spot for.....

Amazing to us how much they look alike. Imagine how much Andrew will benefit from Abraham...I forgot to share also that Abraham is extremely gifted in music. He has perfect pitch ( over the wknd he was tunning his guitar to the windchimes on the back deck). He has won many awards and lives for the opportunity to bless others thru his music...

This top picture was of Andrew on Mothers Day ( Josiah is by him)... We put him on the floor in another room and the stereo was playing ... He crawled over to the speaker and loved being by the music... I wonder if we have another music prodigey.
The really odd thing is when Abraham was growing up lots of people always forgot his name and called him Andrew ... how strange is that ? He was given the name Abraham in his orphanage and we just added John to his name when we adopted him. It is not a common name but one I love and it fits him well... It just was funny though how many people would call him Andrew at first.

  3. Does Andrew have any mental delay or is he just blind?

  4. Andrew has significant delays. He is 5 yrs and 7 months old but is more like a 6 to 8 month old developementally- So far we have seen him make huge progress in just a short time with us... He was neglected and abused(we even observed some of this when we first visited him). We are holding onto to hope and prayers that he will be able to "come back" some from the nightmare he lived in his orphanage. His being blind only complicates things for him... but he is a fighter and very strong willed.

  5. They really do look like biological brothers! I love both of their names. All three times, I had Andrew picked for a boy. All three times, I had to use the girl name. ha
Love that it means "gift from God."
And our preacher's son's name is Josiah. Love that too. Their other two boys are Isaac and Amaus (yes, like the road to Emmaus, but the original Greek/Latin spelling.)

  6. Hi -

I have read your blog off and on for several months now. I love that you are posting more often as I think you are a real inspiration to other families.

I also appreciate that you are giving more specifics on your children's diagnosis' and struggles. It will really help other PAP's be more prepared as they move forward with special needs adoptions.
