Andrew - Small milestones but huge leaps for him and us

Andrew has been eating table food - no bottles for a month or more now ! I shared about that before. We do run the food thru a blender just a bit and lately we have been making the food more chunky. He is doing very well... even better than I thought he would. We put him in a car seat and strapped it to hold him at first... We had to almost force him to accept a spoon and food on it. So he was loudly complaining and did not want to cooperate with us at first. Having him leaning back gave us some advantage to getting the food in him :) It was also a 2 person process ( 3 times a day)... someone would hold his other hand- At first to hold him from interferring with the person feeding him. He hated this at first but now... When you put him down in his seat he actually pulls the straps over his arms . He sucks on his thumb but opens his mouth for the spoon and he does not "need" us to hold his hand but will reach out for someone to hold it. It is actually very sweet how he has accepted this feeding process... and it is a huge step forward for him. He is the most strong willed child we have parented.... that is very significant and I am sure why he is alive. Without this will he would have succumbed to the neglect and abuse he suffered in his orphanage... so I remind myself this is a positive thing... right :) I love watching him buckle himself in to his seat and reaching out to us to hold his hand ( wanting to connect with us)....It may seem small to you but these are huge milestones for Andrew and ones we are grateful for.
He loves anything that is like leather... my computer chair, a jacket and this bean bag chair has become one of his favorite things. The other nite we looked over and he had fallen asleep on it :)

Amazing! Thanks for the updates on him, I remember you visiting him in the orphanage and how skinny he was. He is precious.

He is so sweet! A survivor for sure! Good for you Andrew!
(((HUGS))) and prayers to all of you!

We have an Andrew too, very stubborn too, the strongest willed child I have ever raised too! I always say in my lifetime I could only parent one Andrew! He turns 35 on 12/31. He lives semi-independently in an Adult Foster Care environment. (I do the same Adult Foster care-it's not really foster care-it's semi-independent living. They never change the name when it's adults! It confuses people!) He was severely abused and neglected here in America. We foster/adopted him when he was 7. His strong will saved him.
