This summer we are doing art during the week... we all love art here but often do not get time to do much of it during the school year. Our school room has lots of center areas and the kids will work on projects. We even had a good friend who happens to be an art major teach the kids one year...We love to encourage this part of life and will be doing more so thru the summer.... We have a curriculum that teaches about the diff. artists and then we create some of our own art similiar to their technique... We are also doing just some fun stuff that helps develope creativity.....Anyone have some creative ideas to suggest ?
This was our first project and it is gracing one of our dining room tables... Ava is holding her flowers and sitting outside with Gracie and Andrew.

Toilet paper roll albums to journal what you have learnt about!
My kids just love homemade playdoh :) On rainy days I make a fresh batch and it guantees me quiet for at least an hour, plus it dries hard so I can vacuumn the mess up later...
I always enjoyed making hanging mobiles and papier mache models.
Bubble painting is great fun Put some paint in a pot and add a little water and a squirt of washing up liquid to the paint and then blow into it with a straw. When it bubbles up put some paper down on the top. You get a lovely bubble picture.
For older kids I recommend marbling paper or candle making.
You can get really creative with the candles and add dried flowers and herbs,glitter, essential oils, colours almost anything.
Making pressed flowers and leaves in an old phone book is good fun too and you can use them to make beautiful collages.

I, too, have a hard time fitting in art activities (beyond coloring and drawing)during the school year, and plan to do some this summer. One idea is crayon "resist" paintings, where you draw with crayon, then paint over it with diluted watercolors or tempera. The library has multiple books with great ideas...I plan to grab a couple this evening! Have fun!
