The ingenuity of these kids is amazing....to see value in something no one else values

Ever since a few weeks ago when Andrew out grew his jolly jumper he has been not as happy. He loved the movement and jumping but he has gotten so big he was too big weight wise for the jumper. He will whine lots now and has to be taken to the outside swing and trampoline. Since our pools are closed we don't have that either as an option... so last nite Leah was going to solve this problem herself... Now I was totally amazed at her thought and ingenuity in creating this for Andrew... and of course he loves it. We can move it around from room to room... It is just a sheet and a pull up bar. If you have adopted older kids maybe you have seen some of the same traits. The ability to take "trash" and make something useful out of it is something we have seen lots of times with the older kids. They may have started out with some negative histories but we are seeing them use their past tendency to manipulate into a positive create...Some of the things they make or do I can't believe how well it works or helps us. The ability of them to make something out of something of little value in the eyes of others... the ability to change the purpose of something not with much purpose - the ability to see value in something no one else values....

This sounds alot like our walk and journey of adoption.... and we have been blessed by these children and what they can do.... and they have taught us lessons like this... to value and see beyond the "normal" eye sight of most people into the very eyes and soul of God. Honestly I hope the Lord keeps calling us to love these precious orphans way into our "old" age... they have taught me so much.

What a neat idea! You can also buy hammock chairs that will hold even adults--not to mention they are fun to sit in-- that can be installed inside. That would be great for when your little guy becomes too big for the bedsheet.

Thank you for your post and even more for your blog. I know that you don't know me but I've been following your blog for some time. I am a foster carer of a 13 year old girl here in Australia. It has been a tough 4 months since she came to me but God is so good. Although she hasn't shown ability to make something out of nothing (rather she wants me to buy and buy and buy), this journey in fostering has helped me to see so much more about God and His ways. Just this week I have been marvelling over the fact to win someone's heart is to win their obedience. And isn't that what God did in sending His Son? Through His Son, He wins our hearts and out of that flows our love and obedience to Him. Reading your blog is so encouraging because it reminds me that it is never too late to work with a child (and I'm beginning to see it happen in my foster daughter). I enjoy reading your daughter's blog 'sister of many' too because I dream that one day my child will follow the Lord with her whole heart as well. Teenagers are thought to be past repair but that can't be true because God hasn't given up on them...or us.
Regards,
Heidi
PS. I know from your blog that you have fostered in the past. Did you foster teenagers or only little ones?

Heidi...thank you for posting a comment. I love your thought, " Teenagers are thought to be past repair but that can't be true because God hasn't given up on them... or us." That is so true... thanks for sharing about your family. The oldest child we fostered was 10 yrs old. Most of the other children were younger than that. Blessings

Have you seen the child's trampoline with the handle that plays music as the child jumps? We have one of those and my boys, especially Xander, LOVE it. You can set it to count as the child jumps so that it gives cause/effect feed back or you can set it to just play music while they jump...or you can take the batteries out and it's just a small, personal size trampoline with handles. They are very cheap and it is one of the few things that has lasted over 2 years with Xander and is still on his "favorites" list! Oh, and if Andrew still can't stand very well without support, he can lean on it while jumping (and lay his ear on the music too).

Shelly,

I remember when you got that for Xander...Where did you get it from?
